Laravel Herd Not Opening After Update on macOS

Issue

After updating Laravel Herd, the application may stop opening on macOS. In some cases, Laravel Herd may also not appear under System Settings → Privacy & Security, so there is no option to manually allow or approve it.

This can happen when the updated Herd application is affected by macOS Gatekeeper/quarantine attributes, damaged application files, or an incomplete update.

Solution

First, remove the quarantine attribute from Herd:

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Herd.app"

Then try opening Herd:

open -a "Herd"

If Herd still does not open, completely remove the Herd application:

sudo rm -rf "/Applications/Herd.app"

Then restart macOS:

sudo reboot

After restarting, download and install the latest version of Laravel Herd again.

Important

Removing /Applications/Herd.app only removes the Herd application itself. Do not delete your Laravel project directory or Herd configuration/data directories if you want to preserve your existing sites and configuration.

After reinstalling Herd, your existing Laravel projects should remain intact as long as their project directories were not deleted.
